Lather, Rinse, Repeat - 3 Ways to Build a Learning Habit

Lather, Rinse, Repeat - 3 Ways to Build a Learning Habit | Law Firm Training

Spring is just around the corner, and now is a better time than ever to invest in forming new habits. If your new years’ resolutions didn’t stick, you’re not alone. People are creatures of habit. They use the same locker at the gym, sit at the same table at lunch, and start their day the same way every day. Resolutions and habits are not the same thing, and trying to change habits is hard.

Form new habits that stick with these tricks:

Attitude.

If your goal is to learn something new every day, start thinking of yourself as a lifelong learner. The next time you encounter an issue with your software, ask yourself what a lifelong learner would do? The lifelong learner seeks out training (whether that is a video on Affinity University or an upcoming Affinity Insight live training sessions) and learns how to tackle the problem. Once you adjust your attitude and see yourself a who you want to be, making the right choice comes naturally.

Accountability.

Find a friend to hold you accountable for your new habits. Meet regularly for coffee, lunch, or a walk in the park. Have an honest discussion about how things are going with your goals. Did you seek out training or make it to the gym this week? Knowing that someone you respect cares whether you kept your commitments is a powerful motivation to do so.

Achievements.

Set measurable, repeatable goals for yourself. If your goal is to learn something new every day, set aside 15 minutes a day to watch Affinity University training videos. At the end of each week, if you achieved your goals, reward yourself with a treat. Creating new habits is hard – you deserve it!
