Solr Power is the Future

The average Worldox user is likely unaware of the incredible power behind the search functions they use every day.

Developed by engineers working for the Tech Media giant CNET Networks as an enhancement for in-house web searching, Solr has grown into one of the standards of open-source, REST API integrative database infrastructure.

From its beginnings in 2004, the Solr project has become integrated into the Apache-Lucene development structure and is licensed under the Apache Software Foundation Open-Source model. Currently in stable release 8.7.0, Apache Solr functions as the database solution for some of the most visited and used sites and apps in the World. From Disney to Netflix, SAP to AT&T, Solr Infrastructure has positioned itself as the backbone of some the busiest applications in the world.

Why our new interest in this database structure? It is coming soon to a DMS system near you. Due to the NoSQL structure that Solr utilitzes and the REST API integration, Apache Solr rates highly on the Document-oriented performance, scalability and flexibility vs. its relational database forbears. Thus, when World Software announced that Apache Solr is currently on their 2022 roadmap, it is a natural fit for the Worldox Document Management infrastructure.

Although there are no solid dates announced from World Software, Affinity has already begun initial preparations for how this infrastructure change will provide our organization with opportunities for enhanced integrations, as well as what potential impacts this will present for our clients.

Affinity's commitment to our Clients' continued success means that we will be closely following the developments and opportunities this evolution will bring to Document Management.

If you have any questions about document management – past, present OR future, just reach out to the Document Management Team at Affinity by calling 877-676-5492, or simply request a consultation. We’d be happy to help.
