Why a World-Class Training Program is Critical to Your Firm’s Success

Advertisements for training platforms and programs are everywhere these days. Earlier this year, before quarantine, lock down, and pandemic were part of our daily discussions, I was walking through an airport when I noticed advertisements for training platforms scattered throughout the airport. Training is trending, and with good reason.

Going into 2020, professional organizations throughout the United States were facing shortages in skilled applicants. While hiring needs and the potential applicant pool may have changed with the pandemic, the need for skilled personnel has not. If you can't hire people with the skills you need, you must hire people with potential and train on the skills you need. Better yet, keep your people happy and help them work more efficiently, and you'll need to hire fewer people. A key factor in employee retention is investing in your people and giving them the tools they need to succeed. Training is just the ticket you need.

For those unaccustomed to working outside the office, the pandemic may have been a rude awakening to the need to train people and train them quickly. Firms who had robust training programs going into the pandemic were better positioned to mobilize their training resources in aid of people who unexpectedly became remote workers. A solid training program is the foundation upon which one successfully implements change, whether the change is brought about by a remorseless global contagion, changes to the firm's software, or new internal processes.

Setting up a successful training program takes time, resources, continual review, and re-investment. Training programs that are not well planned, well implemented, nor constantly improved, fail and are quickly forgotten. Exemplary training programs become integral to employees’ smooth, timely, and efficient work. A well-run, happy, and productive work environment increases employee job satisfaction and firm profitability. Such personnel write off less time, draft documents more quickly, and handle more matters with lower costs. It all begins with teaching. Invest in your people and reap the rewards!
